Refrigeration and air-conditioning consume a lot of energy. Therefore, it is essential that the technical solutions economize on the use of energy and fulfil their mission at the same time.

High heat transfer efficiency, compactness and low hold-up volume to minimize the refrigerant charge as well as the possibility to use more environmentally friendly refrigerants are the most important demands on heat exchangers for these duties. Alfa Laval supplies different heat transfer solutions that meet all these demands based on:

Alfa Laval’s refrigeration applications include:

• Air-conditioning where our evaporators and condensers, for example, play a vital role.
• Commercial refrigeration, e.g. in hypermarkets, supermarkets and small and medium food stores. Our focus is on developing systems based on natural refrigerants like carbon dioxide, ammonia and hydrocarbons that can replace freon.
• Industrial cooling and refrigeration, e.g. air-conditioning of offices and industrial premises and refrigeration of ice rinks. We offer solutions that can cope with aggressive fluids, high pressures and very low temperatures. 
• Industrial process refrigeration, e.g. in the food, beverage, pharmaceutical and chemical industries. We supply indirect systems that keep the total refrigerant volume low, ensure easy control of leakage, if any, and facilitate energy recovery.
• Marine refrigeration and air conditioning. Our systems are used onboard fishing vessels, gas carriers/LPG, cruisers and ferries, food transportation ships and cargo vessels.
